Sakumzi (Saki) Justice Macozoma

Non-executive chairman

Saki Macozoma is one of the most prominent business figures in South Africa. He is chairman of Safika Holdings, Tshipi é Ntle and Ntsimbintle Holdings, group chair of Vodacom and a director of Volkswagen South Africa.

In addition to his business interests, Saki makes a substantial contribution to civil society. He is an advisor to the premier of the Eastern Cape, chairman of the KwaZulu–Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, and a member of the Board of Governors of Rhodes University. He has served as chairman of the University Council of the University of the Witwatersrand and the Council for Higher Education, as president of Business Leadership South Africa and as a member of the G20 Business Council. In 2012, for his fight against State oppression during the apartheid era, the University of South African (UNISA) presented Saki with a Calabash award, the university’s highest honour.

Saki’s fight against apartheid began in the mid-1990s when he worked as an organiser for the South African Students Movement. When he was 19, he was arrested for leading a student protest and served five years as a political prisoner on Robben Island. It was there he met South Africa’s future president, Nelson Mandela, who became his mentor, the start of a life-long relationship.

Following his release from prison in 1982, Saki played a prominent role in the formation of a number of anti-apartheid organisations, including the United Democratic Front and the Mass Democratic Movement. In 1994, Saki became an African National Congress (ANC) member of Parliament and was elected chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications. In 1995, he was elected to the National Working Committee of the African National Congress.

In April 1996, Saki resigned from Parliament to become the first black managing director of Transnet, the state-owned company that runs South Africa’s ports, railways and South African Airways. In 1998, he was appointed to the board of Standard Bank and later became its deputy chairman. He has also served as deputy chairman of the prominent South African financial institutions STANLIB and Liberty Holdings.

Saki studied political science, economics and journalism at UNISA and the University of Boston.

Moss Ngoasheng

Non-executive director

Moss is one of South Africa’s most distinguished business people.

In addition to his roles at Safika, Moss is chairman of the board of SABSA, the parent company of South African Breweries, independent, non-executive chair of JSE-listed Investec Property Fund, a member of the board of Wingate Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd and Business Leadership South Africa.

As a young man, Moss joined the African National Congress’ (ANC’s) underground units which operated inside South Africa in the fight against apartheid. In 1978 he was jailed for his anti-apartheid activities and served seven years on Robben Island as a political prisoner, alongside Nelson Mandela. While in prison he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Politics. On his release in 1985, he became a founder member of the United Democratic Front in Limpopo (then known as the Northern Transvaal).

In 1987, Moss graduated with a first class Honours degree in Industrial Sociology from the University of Natal (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal) after which he studied at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, gaining a Masters degree in Development Studies (First Class).

When democracy came to South Africa, Moss served as economic advisor in the Presidency from 1995 to 2000. He also served on the ANC’s economic policy unit for a number of years.

Moss has been a consultant to the World Bank and the National Housing Forum in South Africa, advising on various aspects of economic policy. He has lectured on sociology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and worked as an assistant research fellow at the university’s Departments of Sociology and Town and Regional Planning. He has also been a visiting assistant director in the Department of Economic History at the University of Cape Town.

Sabelo Macingwane

Non-executive director

Sabelo Macingwane is a founding member and current board member of Ntsimbintle Holdings. An entrepreneur with nearly 50 years of experience in the business world, Sabelo is a recognised leader of organised business in South Africa. He served as Chief Executive Officer of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) for over seven years, and also served as the Secretary General for NAFCOC in the Eastern Cape, and President of the Black Management Forum. He is a shareholder at Sandown Motors, a division of Mercedes Benz South Africa. Sabelo’s experience includes 11 years as the Group General Manager of the parastatal, Magwa Tea Corporation.

Vhonani Mufamadi

Non-executive director

Vhonani is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Muvoni Technology Group Limited (formerly Ideco Technology Group Limited) – a Black-owned technology business specialising in security and forensic solutions. Vhonani also serves on the boards of several leading South African corporations and philanthropic organisations, and is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

Cynthia Mogodi

Non-executive director

Omphemetse Cynthia Mogodi is the Chairperson of the John Taolo Gaetsewe Developmental Trust, which holds a shareholding in Ntsimbintle Holdings. Cynthia is a passionate proponent of community development and socio-economic upliftment. In 2002, she became a trustee of the Kgalagadi Rural Charitable Trust (now the John Taolo Gaetsewe Development Trust), and has been its chairperson since inception.

A revered figure in the Northern Cape, she has served the people of her community for the past 35 years, originally as a professional nurse, and later as Executive Mayor of Kgalagadi Cross-Boundary District Municipality. She is a member of the John Taolo Gaetsewe Municipal Council and served as Chairperson of the Finance & Human Resources Committee. Cynthia is a member of the South African Women in Mining Association.

Gina Bleyenheuft

Chief Financial Officer

Gina is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Safika Resources, the company with the management contract to run Ntsimbintle Holdings. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2006, having completed her Bachelor of Accounting qualification through the universities of Stellenbosch and Johannesburg.

Gina has worked in the field of corporate finance and strategic financial management for the past 14 years.

Prior to joining Safika Resources in February 2018, Gina worked as a financial manager heading up strategic projects for a leading distributor of cosmetics and as a senior manager at KPMG corporate finance.

Lyndsay Maseko

Executive: Finance and Business Development

Lyndsay is a chartered accountant who holds a master’s degree in Auditing. Before joining Ntsimbintle Mining in 2018, Lyndsay plied his trade as a senior lecturer at the University of Johannesburg developing and presenting various academic and professional programmes. During this period he served as the audit committee chairperson of first Safika Resources and later Ntsimbintle Holdings during the period 2008 – 2018.
